The Unvictorious One

(16mm, Silent, 1957, 10:25 minutes, silent)

This is the earliest known footage of Arthur Hall dancing, filmed in West Germany by the
Argentine filmmaker Jorge Preloran, about 1957, when both men were in the US Army
Special Services. Preloran went on to produce over sixty documentary films and to teach
documentary filmmaking at UCLA. He is well known for involving the subjects of his films
in all aspects of their production. He gave a VHS copy of The Unvictorious One to the
Arthur Hall Collection shortly before his death. The original 16mm film is now in the
Jorge Preloran Collection in the Human Studies Film Archives of the
Smithsonian Institution.
