 Shiva Ree

  (16mm, 1968, 8:00 minutes)

The title may bring to mind Shiva, the Hindu god of Dance, whose powers can be either
creative or destructive, and also the Chivaree, the cynical serenade that mocks the love
of newlyweds. Here, a small child embraces her primal energy to dance away early demons of
distraction and negativity, flowing forth from the mid 60s tube, that she may find again a
window onto the real world. A Requiem is played backwards. Bill Evan's Peace Piece
is heard, and today the demons are vastly more powerful and subtle.
