Lovetape

(16mm, 1972, 8:22 minutes)

In the mid 1960s I made a sound collage I called Lovetape. It was intended as a piece
unto itself, but in 1973 I realized I needed to begin a new film and Lovetape should
be the soundtrack. I had just completed RACETRACK, a film also posted here. The two films
are close relatives, yet differ in many respects as well. The Vietnam war was staggering
tragically onward beneath a storm of lies. The imagery of the film builds a structure of
mostly personal imagery set against a soundtrack that emphasizes patriotic tunes played
by machines. Toward the close, a human voice, that of Bullmoose Jackson, sings,
Sometimes I wonder, if you still love me.... or if you've let me go.
